Volkswagen has many options on the market right now if you are looking for a sport utility vehicle. Volkswagen's 2023 VW Tiguan and 2023 VW Taos are likely to be the two most popular sport utility vehicles in its lineup this year. In comparison to the Tiguan, the Taos is a small entry-level sport utility vehicle.

Obviously, the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan will be more expensive than the 2023 Volkswagen Taos, but the Tiguan also has more space, more performance, and more features. We aren't going to tell you which of these Volkswagen SUVs is best, but we will show you how they differ and help you decide which is best for you.

Pricing

The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan is more expensive than the 2023 Volkswagen Taos, as previously mentioned. Pricing in 2022 shows about a $7,000 difference between the two models in terms of starting price, with the top-of-the-line VW Taos being $7,000 cheaper than the Tiguan.

Trendline, Comfortline, and Highline versions are available for both SUVs. For $33,695, the Tiguan comes standard with all-wheel drive, while the Taos starts at $26,695. A Taos with all-wheel drive will cost you $29,195. The Highline version of the Taos starts at $36,695, while the Volkswagen Tiguan Highline starts at $43,695.

Interior space

With all seats in place and the rear seats folded down, the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan has more cargo space. The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan offers 1,065 liters of cargo space behind the rear seats, while the Taos offers 790 liters. The Tiguan has 2,081 liters of cargo space when the rear seats are folded, while the Taos has 1,866 liters of cargo space.

Inside, there aren't many differences between the two SUVs. Compared to the Tiguan, the 2023 Volkswagen Taos has a bit less rear legroom with 963 mm vs 983 mm, but offers more headroom in the front and in the back.

Performance

With 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, the 1.5 L turbocharged four-cylinder engine powers the 2023 Volkswagen Taos. With 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, the Tiguan's 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is heavier, but also more powerful.  In terms of total standard torque, both of these SUVs lead their respective segments with some of the fastest accelerations.

Fuel consumption is higher on the Tiguan, but it has more power. In the city, it averages 10.6 liters per 100 kilometers and on the highway it averages 8 liters per 100 kilometers with all-wheel drive. The AWD Taos averages 9.5 liters per 100 kilometers and 7.4 liters per 100 kilometers. When you choose a front-wheel drive Taos, you will save about 1 liter of fuel per 100 kilometers.
