The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta GLI enhances the already dynamic performance of the regular Jetta by swapping the standard 1.5L engine for a more powerful 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission for maximum driver engagement or with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automated manual transmission that makes for lightning-quick gear changes that improve the performance and fuel efficiency of the Jetta GLI. This model is also equipped with the XDS Cross Differential system which acts as an electronic limited-slip differential in order to provide the engine’s power to the wheel with the best traction in corners.
The advanced suspension tuning
The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is equipped with a refined suspension system that is designed to be compliant on broken terrain while allowing for a solid feel and impressive handling characteristics. Specific to the GLI, the Multi-link rear suspension provides an even more dynamic feel, as do the sport-tuned shock absorbers and the lower ride height. Combined with a sporty variable-ratio steering system, this makes the Jetta GLI even more enjoyable to drive, especially on twisty roads. Indeed, this version is equipped with the same 13.4-inch front brake discs that were found in the previous Golf R and the rear brakes are also larger than the ones on the regular Jetta, at 11.8 inches.
