Volkswagen ID.4 2024 Model Gets Major Upgrades for 82 kWh Battery Variants

Volkswagen has unveiled significant updates to its 2024 ID.4 electric compact SUV, specifically targeting its 82 kWh battery models. The announcement comes with a range of enhancements such as a new performance drive unit, an advanced infotainment display, and an inclusion of a premium audio system.

One of the most notable changes is the introduction of a new performance drive unit for the 82 kWh models. This unit will amplify both the horsepower and range for the ID.4. The rear-wheel-drive variant of this SUV will now deliver a robust 282 horsepower, while its all-wheel-drive counterpart is expected to offer approximately 330 horsepower. These upgrades not only enhance the acceleration prowess of the vehicle but are also predicted to extend its EPA-estimated range. Details regarding the exact range figures will be disclosed closer to its market launch.

Technological enhancements have not been limited to performance. Volkswagen will offer an improved user experience with the 2024 ID.4. For those choosing the 82-kWh model, they will be greeted with a new 12.9-inch infotainment display equipped with backlit sliders. This upgrade is a clear leap from the 12-inch display provided in the 62 kWh models. The revised infotainment menu, coupled with a more user-friendly climate control interface, new shifter positioning, and an updated steering wheel layout, certainly improve ergonomics.

Volkswagen is also placing a significant emphasis on comfort in its 2024 ID.4. In a bid to enhance the driving experience, some 82 kWh models will come equipped with ventilated seats for the front row. Meanwhile, those opting for higher trims will enjoy a premium audio system, which boasts numerous speakers and a subwoofer.

The external aesthetics of the 2024 ID.4 have also received some attention. The basic AWD models are set to showcase larger 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. In contrast, the more premium versions will come fitted with 21-inch machined alloy wheels.

For potential buyers, the ID.4 will continue to roll off the assembly line at Volkswagen’s Chattanooga factory in Tennessee. The SUV will be available in three distinct trim levels: Standard/Pro, S, and S Plus. Customers can choose between the 62 kWh or the more powerful 82 kWh batteries, along with the option of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

While the pricing details for the 2024 ID.4 are yet to be announced, they are expected to be revealed in the lead-up to its sales launch in early 2024. Additionally, it's worth noting that the ID.4 models will qualify for potential Federal and Provincial Tax Credits.
